SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE
Hingham Middle School is 176,000 sq. ft. of high tech learning:
- State of the art television studio
- The distance learning theater... A 90 seat lecture auditorium with video conferencing equipment.
- A 680 seat auditorium
- A foreign language lab where teachers can listen to students on specialized software
- Chromebooks for each student
INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY
Students don't have to struggle to hear their teachers anymore.
Hingham Middle School invested in a voice amplification system.
Teachers wear these throughout the day. It allows them to project their voice without putting much strain on it.
Research found a number of students have central auditory processing disorders and that amplified voice systems
allows them to attend better to the instruction in the classroom
CHALK IS GONE AND WHITEBOARDS OBSOLETE
Every classroom at the Hingham Middle School has an interactive whiteboard and projector that is connected to a PC so the teacher can provide instruction using that. Principal Derek Smith says students are now excited to go to the smartboard and work in front of their peers.
THE EVOLUTION OF GYM CLASS
The gym or "Fitness Center" is considered a third teaching station.
It's a classic gymnasium with a twist. Students are taught the fundamentals for sports, but a portion of gym glass is held in the fitness center where kids learn how to work out properly.
STATE OF THE ART SECURITY
No expense was spared with security.
There more than 180 security cameras throughout the building to help keep students safe.
ECO-FRIENDLY
Hingham Middle School is eco-friendly with recycled rainwater used in the restrooms and radiant wall panels to maintain temperatures and reduce heating costs
AN IDEA TO REALITY
Structural concerns at the old Hingham Middle School prompted the idea of a state of the art new middle school.
After a snowy winter and wet spring the old building had some cracking beams. In addition to a growing school population... it was clear Hingham was ready for something new.
