BOSTON (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- One week out from Boston 2024 releasing its official proposal, and now a congressman is saying no thanks to putting up an Olympic stadium in Widett Circle.
Congressman Stephen Lynch, told proponents of Boston's Olympic bid that he doesn't want the stadium in Widett Circle. His words coming just one week before Boston2024 unveils its new proposal, one its calling 2.0.
The temporary stadium is proposed for Widett Circle, an industrial area located right off I-93.
But Congressman Lynch says that area is too congested, and puts a burden on a small population.
He also doesn't believe it's realistic that a 60,000 seat stadium will go up for just three weeks, and then be taken down.
He thinks it's possible it could be used for soccer.
Nobody from Boston2024 could speak with FOX25's Sharman Sacchetti on camera, but in a statement, Boston2024 said, "We appreciate Representative Lynch's concerns and look forward to discussing our new plan with him when completed. We hope it will answer a number of concerns he has expressed."
Those against the Olympics, say it's another obstacle for Olympics proponents.
"We're a week away from Boston2024 launching their new plan, and yet it seems that they're still picking sites almost at random throughout the state," Chris Dempsey, of No Boston Olympics, said. "Congressman lynch has always been known as someone that listens to the communities and listens to the people he represents, and he's probably hearing that people in South Boston and other neighborhoods in that area are not happy with this Olympic proposal."
Boston2024 tells us a temporary stadium opens the chance for broad based multi-use development, and could boost economic growth.
They also say they continue the community engagement process.
Olympics proponents are set to release the next phase of their plans by the end of this month.
