Brady deflategate appeal over, quarterback awaits decision

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (MyFoxBoston.com) -- More than 25 cameras and a throng of reporters gathered at the front entrance of the NFL Headquarters Tuesday morning when Tom Brady arrived for his appeal hearing. The hearing was over Tuesday evening, and the quarterback is now awaiting a decision.

Less than fifteen minutes after Brady's lawyer, Jeffrey Kessler, entered through the front door of 345 Park Avenue, Brady whisked through the back entrance on Lexington Avenue to plead his case to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

At stake is a four-game suspension, the $1.88 million loss in salary that accompanies it, and Brady's legacy with football fans across the world.

The four-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Super Bowl MVP is seeking complete exoneration in the Deflategate case that has hung over the Patriots franchise since the AFC Championship Game on January 18.

Brady's legal team is expected to attack the science behind Ted Wells' research highlighted in his 243-page report submitted to the NFL on May 6.

In the report, Wells contended it was more probable than not that the Patriots deflated footballs below the allowable limit after they were inspected by referee Walt Anderson before the AFC Championship Game. The report also said it was more probable than not that Brady was at least generally aware of this happening.

Brady was suspended for four games on May 11. He hired Kessler two days later and his appeal was formally filed the same day. The NFL Players Association, also representing Brady in the case, sought the recusal of Commissioner Goodell from the appeal hearing, stating they planned to call him as a witness in their defense.

Goodell refused the recuse himself and released a letter to the NFLPA on June 2 alerting Brady and his team that he would, indeed, oversee the hearing.

Brady's hearing was over in one day. He now awaits a decision.
