Investigative report concerning footballs used during the AFC Championship Game on January 18, 2015.
SALEM, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com/AP)- New England Patriot Tom Brady spoke at Salem State Thursday evening for the first time since the
Wells report was released on the deflategate scandal. The 243-page report found some of Brady's claims were "implausible" concerning under-inflated balls in the AFC championship game. The report by NFL-appointed investigator Ted Wells issued Wednesday concluded that two New England Patriots employees violated rules covering game balls and that Brady was "at least generally aware" of plans to doctor the footballs to his liking.
Brady's agent,
Don Yee, says the NFL was determined to blame Brady for deflated footballs in the 45-7 win over Indianapolis in the AFC title game, and the investigation omitted key facts and buried others.
Brady was interviewed by sportscaster Jim Gray during a previously scheduled event at Salem State University Thursday night. Hours before the event started, tickets were being sold on Craigslist for $500.
Brady addressed the report when asked and said he didn't have a reaction to it. He said he wanted more time to think about the report and digest it.
The quarterback also said the scandal surrounding his use of deflated footballs during the NFL playoffs last season hasn't detracted in any way from his Super Bowl title. He says his family and friends love and support him, and although there are "a lot of people that don't like Tom Brady" he's okay with that.
He didn't say when he would address the report, but did say he would, eventually.
