Boston Olympics boosters propose beach volleyball in Quincy

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (AP) -- Organizers of Boston's plan to host the 2024 Summer Olympics are proposing holding beach volleyball events in Quincy, the city directly south of Boston.

Boston 2024 CEO Richard Davey joined ?Quincy Mayor Tom Koch on Wednesday at Squantum Point Park, a waterfront park that offers views of the Boston skyline, to announce the possible venue.

Initial plans had called for beach volleyball on Boston Common but residents and park advocates opposed the idea.

The mayor of Holyoke, Massachusetts, had also pitched hosting volleyball events since the western Massachusetts city was where volleyball was invented.

Organizers have been rolling out proposed venues piecemeal this month as they prepare to unveil an updated plan for hosting the games amid plummeting support locally for the bid.
