BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The fan who was hit by a bat at Fenway Park transferred to rehab from the hospital Friday.
Tonya Carpenter was at Fenway Park June 5 to watch the Red Sox play the Oakland A's when she was hit. At the top of the second inning, Oakland's Brett Lawrie broke his bat on a groundout to second base. A piece of the bat flew into the stands and hit Carpenter. She was carried off the field on a stretcher and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Her boyfriend, Sam Rosario, and her son were both with Carpenter when she was hit. Earlier this week, he told FOX25 that "everyday is a struggle" for her.
"She is fighting for life, everyday is a struggle for her, it's something a traumatic brain injury going to take a long time to heal," he said.
Carpenter was recently upgraded to good condition and on Friday, she was released from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and was transferred to a rehabilitation center."Ms. Carpenter's recovery so far has been excellent. She's getting stronger every day, and we've seen tremendous progress. We're confident she's ready to move forward with the next phase of her care." Dr. Efstathios Papavassiliou, BIDMC Neurosurgery said.
