Boyfriend of fan hit by bat says 'everyday is a struggle'

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The boyfriend of the woman hit by a bat at Fenway Park this past weekend spoke out for the first time Wednesday, saying that everyday is still a struggle for her.

Sam Rosario was sitting with Tonya Carpenter as the Red Sox played the Athletics Saturday. Rosario says Carpenter's son was eating a Fenway frank when he spilled something. When Carpenter turned to help him, the bat came flying at her. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was stable as of Wednesday, but remained hospitalized.

Both Rosario and Carpenter work at WTAG and he spoke on the radio Wednesday.

"She is fighting for life, everyday is a struggle for her, it's something a traumatic brain injury going to take a long time to heal," he said.

Rosario says, this is no one's fault, but they hope people will contribute to their GoFundMe page to help Carpenter and her son through the long recovery.

He is also looking for the man who gave Carpenter the shirt off his back at Fenway that night, so he can repay his kindness.
