Mayor Walsh: Tsarnaev appealing sentence would be 'coward's way out'

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is now facing a death sentence, one that appeals may delay for years to come.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh made his feelings known about the matter for the first time on Saturday.

“What this guy did was terrible, and I don't think there is any punishment too great for him," Walsh said.

Mayor Walsh also supports the death penalty verdict but worries the appeals will drag on.

“I don't know what this guy's gonna do," he said. "He's a coward. To maim people the way he did, to murder people the way he did, him and his brother. He's a coward and I think he's gonna take the coward's way out and appeal and appeal and appeal.”

The appeals process could take years, and perhaps even more than a decade.

The next step is the formal imposition of the sentence, then the Bureau of Prisons will decide where Tsarnaev will be housed until the appeals process runs out.
