BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Could Secretary of State John Kerry be interested in a post with the Boston 2024 Olympic Committee when his term is up? FOX25 has learned the secretary of state met with officials to help boost Boston's bid.
A spokesman for Kerry tells FOX25's Sharman Sacchetti that he has met with Boston 2024 at his Washington office. He also tells us he has met with the International Olympic Committee president and has pushed the appeal of Boston's bid.
In a statement, a Kerry spokesman said he's "not seeking any formal role, now or in the future.”
Kerry is not the only high profile name in political circles to lend support to the bid. Former governor and republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has provided advice to Boston 2024.
On Tuesday, Sacchetti sat down with Ann Romney, who owned a dressage horse that took part in the Olympics. She is a big proponent of the games. Sacchetti asked her if she thinks this could be done without the use of taxpayer money.
"I don't anymore," she replied, adding the cost is "something that people really have to think about."
She did say, "there's got to be a way that the IOC has got to figure out as well, so it is not so expensive."
She went on to say she hopes people will see the games as an opportunity to serve the world, and called the $50 billion that Russia and China spent on the games, "outrageous."
The city of Boston is holding another in a series of public meetings to gather input on the bid.
