(
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's relatives are not happy that he has been convicted, and some have come out and said they want him to fire his defense team.
These relatives spoke to
TIME Magazine and are convinced that he is innocent, and want him to fire his high powered lawyers who are trying to spare him from the death penalty.
Last week's verdict - guilty on all 30 counts - was the verdict heard round the world, especially in southern Russia, where Tsarnaev's relatives told the magazine that the jury got it wrong.
"It would be so much easier if he had actually committed these crimes, then we could swallow this pain and accept it," Dzhokhar's aunt, Maret Tsarnaeva,
told TIME.
The family was especially angry with defense attorney Judy Clarke who, in open and closing statmeents told the jury Dzhokhar did it, and needs to be held responsible.
"Why do we even need defense attorneys if they just tell the jury he is guilty?" Maret asked TIME. "What's the point?"
The relatives said they tried to get a message to Dzhokhar to fire Judy Clarke, whose defense strategies have spared numerous clients the death penalty.
They even wanted to send a relative into court and shout a message to him, but they say it seems Dzhokhar's mother, Zubeidat, is stopping them.
"The mother won't let us do it, she won't listen to reason," Dzhokhar's great aunt Hava Tsarnaeva told the publication.
In Boston, attorney Phil Tracey says Dzhokhar could take action right now.
"It's possible. Anything is possible in this situation," Tracey said. "Nothing would happen to the verdict, but one of the appeals could be ineffective assistance of counsel."
This legal team that is trying to save his life, however, is considered the best there is. The penalty phase begins Tuesday.
