BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The death penalty phase of the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev trial will start the day after the Boston Marathon.
Tsarnaev was found guilty of all 30 charges against him in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings and the following shootout in Watertown in 2013. On Friday, the US Attorney announced that the death penalty phase of this case will begin Tuesday, April 21. That is one day after runners will cross the finish line on Boylston Street this year.
The judge's order says a brief delay like this is fairly common. It also says the defense requested a delay "to resolve outstanding logistical issues with a number of potential witnesses."
According to a court official, the jury is due back in court Tuesday, April 14 at 9 a.m. for instructions "regarding scheduling and other logistical matters."
The bombings killed three people and injured nearly 300.
