Bombing survivor: There’s not a good enough punishment for him

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Marc Fucarile and Dic Donohue were injured on different days, one from the sidelines of the marathon and the other during the Watertown shootout. But both expressed feelings of relief after Wednesday's verdict.

MBTA Transit Officer Dic Donohue says Wednesday was a nerve-wracking day for him as he sat on the edge of his seat waiting for the verdict in the Boston Marathon bombing trial.

“It's a victory but you know there's a significant portion of the population, whether they were involved directly or indirectly, that has to live with the consequences,” he said.

The Winchester native admits it was especially difficult when it came time to hear their decision over charges that involved Donohue's colleagues and friends, especially murdered MIT Police Officer Sean Collier who was Donohue's neighbor and friend from the police academy.

“When I started to see count one and it involved people I know, people that were close to me that meant something to me and still do, I knew we were on the right track,” he said.

Stoneham native Marc Fucarile says after coming to court for much of the trial, he was feeling confident as the verdict was read. The former roofer who was standing outside Forum restaurant when the younger Tsarnaev left a pressure cooker bomb that blew off part of Fucarile's leg told FOX25 exclusively that he's still going back and forth on whether he thinks Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should be given the death penalty.

“To be honest, there's not a good enough punishment for him,” he said.

He went on to say that he does not think Tsarnaev could be rehabilitated completely.

“He's just an evil person. He's a real coward. You know that act that day with those children being right there,” he said.

Donohue was unwilling to give us an answer on his thoughts about whether Tsarnaev deserves the death penalty, saying that's a personal opinion he shares only with close friends and family, but said as this next stage in the trial progresses, there may come a time when he's willing to share his opinion.
