BOSTON (AP) - A defense lawyer says if it hadn't been for Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bombing "would not have happened."
The lawyer for Tsarnaev's brother, Dzhokhar, delivered closing arguments today at his trial in Boston. She says Dzhokhar Tsarnaev took part in the attack, but only because of the influence of his older brother, who died four days after the bombings.
A prosecutor earlier described the bombing as a "cold, calculated, terrorist act" that was "intentional" and "bloodthirsty." In closing arguments, the prosecutor said the attack was aimed at spreading terror and punishing America for its wars in Muslim countries.
The jury is expected to begin deliberating as early as Monday afternoon in the case against Tsarnaev, almost two years after the twin bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killed three people and wounded more than 260 in the nation's deadliest terror attack since 9/11.
