BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Security has tightened in and around the federal courthouse as the trial for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev begins.
Anyone who enters the federal courthouse in Boston is screened, but with an accused terrorist on trial the security perimeter has expanded. Both the Feds and Boston police are on patrol in and around the area.
The roads outside the courthouse have security perimeters and one is shut down all together. Special ops from Boston police are checking delivery trucks and walking the grounds. People who work in the area say the tighter security is noticeable.
Boston resident Ian Ross said, "It's been kind of annoying to be honest with you but it's good to see security high."
Another Bostonian, Andrew Lawrence, said, "Cars are able to get through, but they just have to be checked out."
Federal agencies including the US Marshals Service and Homeland Security tell FOX 25 that they more people committed to securing the building. A remote location near the entrance to the harbor is also set up. Federal officials are only saying this command post is being used to monitor security at all federal buildings in the city.
The other noticeable change in security: there is more of it compared to Whitey Bulger's 2013 trial.
"I feel like now we are dealing with a terrorist whereas Bulger there wasn't as much of a threat. It was an older issue so I feel security is a lot higher now," one resident said.
Boston police say they won't have cost estimates for security until after the trial.
