(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Scott Brown is filing for retirement, according to an application filed with the Massachusetts State Treasurer's office that was obtained by FOX25 Political Reporter Sharman Sacchetti.

Brown, a former US Senator, State Senator and State Representative, is claiming 16 and a half years of service with the state.  The Republican served his district in Wrentham before moving to New Hampshire to run for US Senate in 2014. He lost that race to Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

Documents show in his last year holding state office his salary was $76,440.19.  That was in December of 2009, and January of 2010, just before Brown won the US Senate seat left vacant after the passing of Senator Ted Kennedy. Brown lost that seat in 2012 to Elizabeth Warren.

A spokesman for the Treasurer's office tells FOX25 it has received Brown's application and is still verifying years of service.  Brown will receive a pension based on age, years of service and the average of his top three earning years. If he chooses to run for a popularly elected office again in Massachusetts, Brown will still be able to collect his pension.

We've reached out to Brown for comment.
