Final set of jurors expected in Aaron Hernandez murder trial

Posted: Updated:
FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - The final set of prospective jurors in the murder trial of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez is expected in court.

Tuesday marks the end of the first phase of jury selection for Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty to killing semiprofessional football player Odin Lloyd in 2013.

Jurors will complete written questionnaires. Later this week, lawyers will go through the questionnaires to try to whittle down the pool of more than 1,000 people.

Bristol County Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh will then individually question remaining jurors to help select 18 people to serve on the jury.

Cameras are not allowed in the courthouse during jury selection. Security also is enforcing a ban on sports logos in the courthouse.

Opening statements are not expected to start until next week.
