BOSTON (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Attorney General and candidate for governor Martha Coakley is responding to criticism about parking in a tow zone - again - to attend a campaign event.
Monday evening, a GOP political tracker took a video of Coakley's vehicle parked in a commercial spot while she attended an event in Boston.
Coakley travels with a State Police security detail in a state-issued vehicle.
Back in May, Republican trackers showed video of Coakley on two separate occasions parked in spaces marked as tow zones reserved for the Boston Fire Department. At the time, she was attending fundraisers.
On Wednesday, Coakley told FOX 25's Sharman Sacchetti that it's all up to the State Police.
"I'll say what we've said, this is an issue of executive protection for the governor, for attorneys general. Those decisions are made for safety and security by the State Police," she said.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police tells us it's a matter of public safety and that it's necessary to have the cruiser as close to the destination as possible. He also says he could not use a parking garage because it would compromise certain security standards.
