Brockton man shot, killed after allegedly pointing BB gun at cops

BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The district attorney's office is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that took place early Thursday in Brockton.

At around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a woman came into the Brockton police station to report that her husband called her cellphone and told her he was at her home on Thayer Street and threatened to  burn it down. The woman told police other people were inside the home at the time.

The man, 45-year-old Douglas Buckley, had been drinking, and was making other threats as well, the woman reported. On Thursday morning, the woman told FOX25 that she told police there were no weapons in their home, but they did have BB guns that looked real.

Police responded to the address on Thayer Street, where they reportedly found Buckley with a police scanner and earpiece in one hand and what appeared to be a rifle in the other hand. Buckley then allegedly dropped his rifle and pulled out a handgun that was concealed behind his back, and pointed it at officers, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's office.

The two police officers who responded to the scene then both discharged their weapons, and shot Buckley in the lower right abdomen. The DA's office says police called for paramedics and administered first aid. Buckley was taken to Brockton Hospital to be treated, but was pronounced dead just after 2 a.m.

Both the rifle and handgun that Buckley reportedly pointed at police were "BB guns that closely resemble authentic guns," according to the DA's office. The BB guns reportedly had the orange safety markers removed.

Buckley's sister-in-law says police officers shot at Buckley four times.

"The first time he shot him, he actually said, 'please stop,'" Buckley's sister-in-law told FOX25. "And they shot him three more times."

State police and the district attorney's office are investigating. The DA's office did not release any other information, or say if the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is underway.
