Former Patriots guard Joe Andruzzi has been fighting the good fight against cancer since he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2007. Since 2009, he has hosted an annual golf event to raise money for families dealing with the perils of a personal cancer battle.
Butch Stearns was at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth for Monday's event, which hoped to raise more than $250,000.
"I was there with Joe in Vegas when he got sick initially," said Matt Chatham, a former Patriots linebacker attending today's event. "My wife works for the foundation. We're heavily invested in what he's into, so it's very fulfilling, knowing all the work that goes in behind the scenes to get to this day."
"It's special for us to come out here and still have a bond," said former Patriots offensive lineman Dan Koppen. "Everybody comes out and supports."
"It's very rewarding to walk into a hospital and get a great big hug from a complete stranger saying 'thank you,' so it's truly amazing to keep paying forward and that's why we're here today," said Andruzzi. "We'll lose a lot of golf balls, but we're paying it forward."
The Joe Andruzzi Foundation raises money for a great cause, but when you get these guys together, they're still talking football... and Tom Brady.
"I hope they just drop the whole thing,"said Koppen, who played on the Patriots offensive line from 2003-2011. "I know the guy personally and I'll vouch for him any day of the week and twice on Sunday, so what he says I believe."
"If you use logic, you'd say after looking at all the other different reports that he should be exonerated," said former Patriots safety Tim Fox. "But there's no logic involved here."
"I don't know what you're talking about," said Patriots center Bryan Stork. "I'm just trying to get better every day."
"I know nothing about it, so I'm sure it will all get resolved soon," said former Patriots coach Dante Scarnecchia.
