QUINCY, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com) – Fallon Ambulance Service has threatened a lawsuit against the City of Quincy after losing the contract.
Fallon operated ambulances in Quincy for nearly two decades, but now they said the contract has been given to a new company because of favoritism and bias.
Ultimately an eight-member committee voted 5-3 to
sign a new contract with Brewster Ambulance Service.FOX25 has obtained the letter Fallon sent Quincy demanding they start the entire process over.
In it, Fallon alleges three members of the ambulance committee, members of the Quincy Fire Department, showed undue influence favoring Brewster.
Fallon says so-called “improper bias” is evidenced in the committees score sheets, which showed a wide disparity in how the fire fighters ranked Fallon compared to the rest.
"If this were such an orchestrated process or an attempt to orchestrate one, then there wouldn't have been such disparity,” Quincy Solicitor Jim Timmons said.
The mayor accepted the recommendation and Brewster takes over July 1.
"The mayor's very comfortable with the decision and where we are and one way or the other we're gonna get to Brewster,” Timmons said.
Brewster has been expanding service, acquiring contracts in Middleboro, Plymouth. Just since last fall, it won contracts in Braintree, Quincy and Brockton.
But not without controversy;
the Brockton deal is the focus of a federal grand jury investigation.
