Man arrested after attempted abduction at New Hampshire outlets

MERRIMACK, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted and attempted to kidnap a teenager at the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 4:15 p.m. when a 16-year-old was leaving the bathroom at the food court. She reported being grabbed by a man, thrown to the ground and pinned so that she could not move.

She screamed, and the man, later identified as 25-year-old Desmond Mighty, allegedly threatened her life, according to police.

"As he was pinning her down, he was asking her, 'Do you want to die?'" said Merrimack Police Lt. Denise Roy.

A nearby witness heard the victim's screams and ran to help. Mighty took off. Mall security found him in the parking lot, and he was arrested.

Police found two fully loaded revolvers, a knife, condoms, and marijuana inside Mighty's car.

"I can only speculate at this point what this was about, but I think it's clear he was up to no good," Lt. Roy said. "He did commit a violent assault to this juvenile who was less than half his size."

Mighty is from Connecticut, and as far as police know he has no ties to Merrimack, N.H.

"This girl did the right thing. The witness did the right thing," Roy said. "It's only because of those two things, her screaming and the witness, we feel that this girls life has been saved."

Police charged Mighty with attempted kidnapping and second degree assault, along with other drug and gun charges.
