WAYLAND, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police have arrested a man in connection with a break-in at a Wayland home Sunday night where a woman was also assaulted.
The incident happened
just before 10 p.m. Sunday night at a home on West Plain Street. A 23-year-old woman reported being at home in her kitchen when a man entered the home through an unlocked door and grabbed her.
The woman said at that point she screamed, alerting other people in the home and forcing the suspect to flee. Police believe the attack was random and unprovoked.
The woman was able to grab the man's shirt and rip it from him. Police were able to use it t to track his scent down Main Street toward Natick using a trained search dog before the trail went cold.
On Wednesday, Wayland police announced they had arrested 21-year-old John T. Monahan and charged him with assault and battery, and breaking and entering in the nighttime. Monahan lives in Wayland.
Police said an anonymous tip led them to Monahan, and he voluntarily came to the police station Wednesday with his lawyer and parents.
He was being held Wednesday afternoon at the Wayland Police Headquarters and was expected to be arraigned in Framingham District Court.
