Tropical Storm Bill making landfall in Texas, will have lingering effects into late week

Posted: Updated:
8 AM UPDATE: Center of Bill is just 30 miles from Port O'Connor Texas!

NEXT UPDATE: 11 AM

Tropical Storm Bill is expected to make landfall in eastern Texas this morning and weaken as it pushes into south central Texas this afternoon.  Landfall will occur before 10 AM near Matagorda Bay. Galveston, Victoria and Houston are under a Tropical Storm Warning.

Tropical Storm force winds and gusts are anticipated today along with heavy rain and isolated tornadoes.  A storm surge up to 4 feet will impact the coastline.

Rainfall may be the biggest issue attached to this storm.  Even as it weakens into a tropical depression tonight, 4-8” of rain is expected in eastern Texas and Oklahoma with a few spots receiving up to a foot!  Louisiana and Arkansas are forecasted to see 2-4” attached to Bill.

Deep moisture and downpours will move into the upper Midwest by late this week.  Although no longer a named system, the remnants of Bill will help fuel the rain in our forecast in New England Sunday.
