2 Boston teens accused of killing boy, 16, plead not guilty

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com / AP) -- Two Boston teenagers charged with gunning down a 16-year-old boy out riding his bike have been held without bail.

Sixteen-year-old Dushawn Taylor-Gennis and 14-year-old Raeshawn Moody pleaded not guilty to murder and gun charges at their arraignment Monday. They were in court but kept out of sight.

They are charged in the Wednesday killing of Jonathan Dos Santos.

Police say the three knew each other, but the motive remains under investigation. Prosecutors say the suspects "trapped" Dos Santos, who was shot five times.

Prosecutor Jennifer Hickman said surveillance video from the scene clearly shows the two suspects.

"The video shows the two defendants appeared to be waiting for someone. They were observed walking up and down the sidewalk while together, at times laughing, other times on the phone,” Hickman said.

Defense lawyers asked that the teens be released to their parents, saying their mothers cooperated with police. Moody's lawyer says police have the wrong person.

"[His mother] went and found him. She brought him to the police station. She did what any good citizen would do,” Taylor-Gennis's attorney Michael Doolin said. "The case that's been lodged against him is one of mistaken identity."

Juveniles charged with murder in Massachusetts are exposed to the same penalties as adults and their cases are open. The two suspects are being held until their next hearing in July.
