Seamstress who may have helped escaped NY prisoners arraigned

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- The seamstress who may have helped two prisoners escape from a New York prison was arraigned Friday.

Joyce Mitchell, who worked at the New York prison as a seamstress, was arraigned Friday after being accused of helping a pair of convicted murderers escape from custody. The charges are unknown.

Officials say she may have given the prisoners illegal contraband and helped them with the escape by acting as a getaway driver. She also allegedly gave them useful information in the six-day manhunt after the break. She could face felony charges

She reportedly told investigators that one of the prisoners made her feel "special" but she did not say she was in love with him, CNN reported.

Her husband, Lyle Mitchell, also worked at the prison, and he is under investigation as well.
