BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Red Sox pitcher Wade Miley vented his frustrations at manager John Farrell after being told he'd be removed from Thursday's game against Baltimore.
Miley, who surrendered five runs on nine hits (including three home runs) in four innings, was lifted after throwing 69 pitches. NESN cameras captured Miley expressing his displeasure with Farrell's decision, demonstratively flailing his arms while pleading his case.
The conversation continued into the tunnel leading from the Red Sox dugout to the clubhouse.
Miley returned to the Red Sox dugout shortly after the exchange.
Miley wasn't interested in discussing the run-in after the game.
"What's done is done. It is what it is," said Miley. "It's fine. It's over. Everything that happened is over. If you want to talk about the game we can talk about the game, but that's it."
Farrell said, "Well he's a competitor. You work four days for your start. He doesn't want to come out of the ball game and I fully respect that, but I thought he had good stuff overall but where we were on the scoreboard, I felt like we needed to change the contrast, change the style. I made move after four innings."
Pressed about whether it was an issue that needs to be further addressed, Farrell said, "He didn't want to come out of the game and that's his competitive spirit coming through. We've had a chance to talk. Again, it's a competitive guy on his day to pitch and I fully respect it."
The Red Sox tried to rally in Thursday's game, but fell short as Baltimore completed the series sweep with a 6-5 win.
The Sox return home to Fenway Park for a series with Toronto that begins Friday night.
