SOMERVILLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) -- One person has died and another was injured when a temporary hoist fell off a building under construction in Somerville Thursday.
At about 3:30 p.m., SkyFOX flew over Assembly Row for the report of a construction accident that happened at an administrative office building being built for Partners HealthCare.
A spokeswoman for the contractor, Suffolk Construction Co., says the two workers were employed by subcontractors. Their names haven't been released. The spokeswoman says the injured worker is hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
Suffolk Construction said in a statement that the workers were installing external hoists on the building when a hoist cab fell away from the building. The company says the workers were following all safety protocol at the time and it's not clear what caused the accident.
The statement read, in part, "Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the two workers who were involved in today's accident."
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
