REPORT: Patriots sign Matt Flynn

Posted: Updated:

With the potential for Tom Brady to miss up to four games due to suspension, the Patriots looked to bolster their quarterback situation by signing veteran Matt Flynn.

According to ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini, Flynn has agreed to a deal with New England. To clear space on the roster, the Pats released Garrett Gilbert.

Flynn split time over the last three seasons with the Seahawks, Raiders and Packers. His best season was in 2013 when he filled in for an injured Aaron Rodgers and completed 102 of 166 passes for 1,146 yards and seven touchdowns.

Flynn also quarterbacked the Packers against New England in 2010, throwing for 251 yards and three touchdowns in a Patriots 31-27 win.

After four seasons with Green Bay from 2008-2011, Flynn signed a multi-year contract with Seattle. Russell Wilson won the starting quarterback job for the Seahawks in 2012.

In other roster moves confirmed by the team, the Patriots released TE Tim Wright and WR Zach D'Orazio, while signing LB DJ Lynch, TE Jimmay Mundine and TE Logan Stokes.
