Wes Welker open to return to Patriots

Posted: Updated:

Former Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, who spent the last two seasons in Denver, told WEEI's midday program Tuesday afternoon he'd be willing to return to New England if the right deal came about.

Welker's health has been an issue, as he missed three games in 2013 due to concussions. After sitting out a two-game suspension in 2014 for violating the NFL's drug policy, Welker did play 14 games.

In those 14 games, he caught 49 passes for 464 yards and two touchdowns, a significant drop-off from his 2013 stats (73 receptions for 778 and 10 touchdowns).

Welker signed with the Broncos following the 2012 season, during which he caught 118 passes for 1,354 yards and six touchdowns. He was Tom Brady's top target and remains the all-time leading receiver in Patriots history.

He is currently a free agent and has not been contacted by the Patriots.
