CHARLESTON, S.C. —  Police in Charleston have arrested the person they said is responsible for taping a dog's mouth shut.

According to WCBD, The North Charleston Police Department arrested William Leonard Dodson, charging him with ill treatment of animals/torture.

The animal shelter taking care of the dog, whose name is Caitlyn, quickly thanked the police for finding the person they said is responsible.

When the shelter sent out a press release about Caitlyn, no one realized just how big of a part social media would play in finding Dodson, WCBD reported.

More than 10,000 people visited the WCBD website within hours of posting.

People from all over the world also offered to donate money for the reward offered to find the person responsible and to help Caitlyn.

The Charleston Animal Society has been using their Facebook page to update followers on Caitlyn's recovery.  She's eating normal food as of yesterday.  She also had a small surgery on her lip.
