ORANGE COUNTY, Texas (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A teen who lost both parents just days before his high school graduation was comforted on stage by the police officer who broke the news.

Kazzie Portie, 18, lost both of his parents after they were hit by a drunk driver just days before his high school graduation.

Portie wasn't alone when he walked on stage to receive his diploma. The officer who delivered the devastating news of his parents' death was waiting on stage to hug him.

"It's not just about putting handcuffs on people and writing tickets," the Uxbridge Police Department wrote on their Facebook page, weighing in on the story. "This police officer makes us proud to put the uniform on everyday."

Kazzie got a standing ovation as he walked across the stage at his graduation. His older brother, Blake Henning, posted the video to YouTube.

Lt. Ellison says he just did what he would want someone else to do, if he had to leave his own daughters before his time.(Lt. Ellison) said when he told Kazzie about his parents, the first thing he said was ‘I graduate on Saturday. I don't know what I'm going to do,'” said Reporter Brittany Rainville with 12 News Now.

Rainville said Ellison told Kazzie, “You're going to walk. And your parents are going to have a front-row view from heaven.”

Ellison thanked people on his Facebook page.

Kazzie classmates are commenting on social media, providing loving words of support to their friend during the difficult time.
