On a warm and windy afternoon inside Gillette Stadium, the Patriots made four rookies available to the media.
Well, the players were available physically to speak with the media, however the essence that made each player who they are was not there because of the "Patriot Way."
Trey Flowers, Geneo Grissom, Tre' Jackson and Shaq Mason gave the media a lesson on how to answer any question with "trying to work hard" and "trying to get better."
Although mum was the word for the players, we were able to get a few usable answers. Defensive lineman Trey Flowers had this to say about the biggest difference he's noticed between college football and the NFL.
“Obviously it's going to be the speed of the game. That's why I'm here and I'm just trying to condition right, trying to work hard, trying to get into the playbook and do things that will allow me to make that transition to the NFL.”
Defensive lineman Geneo Grissom isn't worried about getting playing time as a rookie.
“I'm not too worried about trying to get on the field early," said Grissom. "I'm just trying to do whatever the coaches ask me and hopefully make the 53-man roster.”
Offensive lineman Tre' Jackson protected Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston in college and now he's working with one of the best ever. When asked about protecting Tom Brady, Jackson said, "It's great to be with a guy like that. But it's not just Tom Brady. Being with all the Patriots, just walking through the locker room, being able to go to all those Patriots and get advice from them, guys that you looked up to for the longest time, being able to go get advice from them.”
Offensive lineman Shaq Mason goes from being a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket to a New England Patriot.
“Coming in, the guys told me nothing is given here, so I'm going to have to work every day," said Mason. "And that was the plan – to work every day, study as much as possible and get to know as much as I can.”
