Man arrested in connection to 4 sexual assaults

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man was arraigned Tuesday morning in Brighton in connection with four sexual assaults in the area.

Steven Lent is charged with the indecent assault and battery of three women and rape of a fourth. His attorney told FOX25 that police have the wrong man.

Boston police say the 26-year-old is the person seen in Boston University surveillance video at four different crime scenes. He was allegedly lifting up women's skirts and groping them. In one incident, police say he raped a woman. Two of the crimes happened a few weeks ago and two others occurred last August.

It turns out the crimes were happening near the suspect's apartment, one happened on Chester Street and another one on Brighton Avenue where he lives.

Eva Mayo, a BU student said, "I figured he lived in the neighborhood because all of them are happening around here."

FOX25 has learned three of the four victims go to school or work at Boston University. Young women told us that they have been on edge about the attacks for months.

"As a woman it's scary when you're walking down the street you always have to feel like you are on the look out if there is a weird guy and I don't like to feel like that," one woman said.

BU has been proactive as far as putting out alerts to students as these cases were being reported.

Lent was released on $50,000 bail after his court appearance Tuesday, but the judge forbid him from staying at his Brighton Avenue apartment while the case is being sorted out.

"That's a relief, definitely, I think everyone will be at ease now," one student in the area said.

Lent's attorney told FOX25 that his client will be staying with family up in Peterborough, New Hampshire.
