WORCESTER, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police have issued multiple citations against the driver of a tractor trailer that hit and killed a woman in Worcester last week, including for vehicular homicide.
The incident occurred Thursday night just before 9:30 p.m. in Kelley Square. The truck reportedly turned too sharply, knocking down a light pole, which forced two pedestrians, a man and a woman, into the truck's path. The woman, 24-year-old Sarah Ewing of Hudson, got stuck in the wheel well of a tractor-trailer, and police say she was trapped for about a half hour before she could be freed.
First responders took Ewing to the hospital, where she was originally in very critical condition, but she died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The man, her 25-year-old brother from Oxford, suffered serious injuries to his legs and feet and remains hospitalized in stable condition.
On Monday, police cited the driver, 62-year-old Gary Shray, of North Carolina, for vehicular homicide, negligent operation so as to endanger, and failure to use care in turning.
The investigation remains ongoing and the truck has been impounded.
