Tom Brady files appeal against suspension

Posted: Updated:

FOXBORO, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has filed an appeal against his four-game suspension, which came as a punishment from the NFL in relation to deflategate.

The NFLPA announced Thursday that the appeal had officially been filed, according to the NFL. Brady's agent, Don Yee, already publicly announced this would happen, saying that the Wells Report, which detailed an investigation into the so called deflategate scandal, lacked evidence.

The report said it was likely that the Patriots' quarterback was "at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities" regarding the deflation of game balls used in the AFC Championship Game.

Earlier this week, the NFL handed down a four-game suspension punishment for Brady as well as a fine based on the findings of the report.

So what happens now? NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell can either hear Brady's appeal or choose an officer to hear it, according to the NFL. Lawyer Jeffrey Kessler will be just one on the team defending Brady and he has a history of winning cases against the NFL. If Brady loses the appeal, he will miss the first four games of the upcoming season.

The Patriots have not said if they will appeal the $1 million fine and two forfeited draft picks that came along with Brady's four-game suspension.
