(
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Ben Affleck is responding to controversy sparked after a PBS show left out details about his ancestors.
E-mails leaked during the Sony hack revealed the show "Finding Your Roots" edited out details about Affleck's slave-owning ancestor. According to the e-mails, Affleck actually asked that it be excluded from his episode.
On Facebook, Affleck writes, "I regret my initial thoughts that the issue of slavery not be included in the story. We deserve neither credit nor blame for our ancestors and the degree of interest in this story suggests that we are, as a nation, still grappling with the terrible legacy of slavery."
Affleck goes on to say, "While I don't like that the guy is an ancestor, I am happy that aspect of our country's history is being talked about."
