BOSTON - The 2014-15 season wasn't very kind to Bruins' defenseman Zdeno Chara and the start of the offseason isn't looking any better.
The team announced Tuesday Chara has a non-displaced fracture of his left fibula, but the injury will not require surgery to repair. The recovery time for this type of injury is approximately four weeks.
A myriad of injuries limited Chara to 63 games this year. In those games, he recorded just 20 points, the lowest total he's posted in a full season since 2001-02. Chara posted 19 points in 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season. His 0 plus/minus rating was his first non-positive rating since 2006-07.
In the Bruins final media session of the season, Chara stressed the importance of getting healthy this offseason. It appears four weeks of rehab is the first step for Chara in that process.
