WEYMOUTH, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com) - A Weymouth High School student is now facing criminal charges for allegedly pushing his teacher into a filing cabinet because she confiscated his cellphone.
Police said Wednesday the 15-year-old freshman is facing charges of assault and battery on a public employee and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
Now, the student's mother is speaking out exclusively to FOX25.
The 15 year-old was first dropped off at home by police. About an hour later, police returned to the house and arrested him.
"A teacher came in his space and took his cell phone. It angered him," his mother said.
Her 15 year-old son is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after police say he pushed a math teacher into a filing cabinet causing her to slam into it.
"I'm sorry this happened because nobody deserves to be shoved or pushed over a cellphone," she said.
Police say the teacher took the student's phone away because they are not allowed in class -- and that's when the teen pushed the teacher into the file cabinet.
The scuffle ended with other students and staff members having to pull the 15 year-old off the teacher.
The student has been in the Weymouth school system for a couple of years and his mother wants people to know he is not violent.
"It angered him, he has special needs and he shoved her," she said.
The teen will be in juvenile court later this month. He is currently in custody and not in school.
