PORTLAND, Ore. (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Washington state man could be sent to South Korea after his adoptive parents failed to finish the adoption process when he was a child.
Adam Crapser was originally born in South Korea, but Americans adopted him when he was just 3-years-old.
A few years later, they ended up abandoning him, and his abusive foster parents neglected to finalize his naturalization.
Crapser ended up living on the streets, and was arrested several times for stealing.
Now, however, Crapser is a the married father of three. He tried to update his citizenship, but his troubled past and incomplete adoption could potentially send him back to South Korea.
"I won't make it if you send me, so you're sentencing me to death for crimes I've already done hard time for."
Crapser is working with a senator to propose a stand-alone bill to extend US citizenship to all international adoptees.
"His case is compelling for so many reasons," his attorney, Lori Walls said. "the child citizenship act should be amended to include kids who were over 18 in 2001 when it was enacted."
