HOPKINTON, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police shut down a section of Hopkinton on Saturday evening after calls came in of a potential bomb just a short distance from the Boston Marathon starting line.
The call came in at the town's library, with the starting line visible from the building.
The caller claimed to have a bomb, and was holding hostages at the library.
By the time police arrived on scene, another call came warning officers to get back.
Police soon received confirmation that the library had been closed for more than an hour at the time, and no one was left inside.
A sweep of the building confirmed no one was in the building.
Police believe this was a case of "swatting," when a fake emergency call is made. There have been multiple swatting calls around the area recently.
In Billerica, two young people are potentially facing charges after claiming to be a distraught military veteran who was armed and contemplating suicide. Police tracked the phone's location, and found the pair at a home on Old Rangeway Road. They first fled police, but surrendered
Framingham police
reported a case of swatting on Thursday. In that case, the caller posed as a resident and threatened to hurt police.
Hopkinton police say they plan to utilize resources from Mass. State Police and the FBI to find the caller.
