NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) -- Athletics Kenya says on Friday it has banned marathon champion Rita Jeptoo two years for doping.

Jeptoo has won the Boston Marathon three times, and her second Chicago Marathon in October.

But traces of the banned blood-booster EPO were found in her out-of-competition test in Kenya on Sept. 25.

On October 31, the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) released a statement, saying that top finishers at the Boston Marathon are tested in accordance with strict guidelines.

"Boston has been and continues to be an advocate for strict anti-doping measures along with the other events which comprise the World Marathon Majors," the IAAF statement read.
