BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Bruins will host the Canadiens in the 2016 Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium.
The NHL announced Saturday that the Boston Bruins are going to play against rival Montreal Canadiens in the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. Both teams will take the ice on Jan. 1, 2016 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
The B's are the first team to host the NHL's Winter Classic more than once, according to the Boston Globe.
“[It took] not a little, a lot of lobbying on our behalf to say we want to host this game,” Charlie Jacobs, CEO of Delaware North and the Bruins, told the Globe. “Maybe some arm-twisting with some of the other leadership at the NHL level. I think that's going to be a great atmosphere. The fact that we're getting it twice I think speaks a lot about the market that we play in and the passionate fan base, not only for Boston but the Montreal fans that may come down and I'll expect will be in Gillette Stadium as well.”
The Bruins and Canadiens have played the other more than any other team in their respective franchise histories, according to NHL.com. The teams also played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs series last season, and the Canadiens took home the cup.
