BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- FOX Undercover has found more inaccurate traffic signs in Boston.
It comes nine months after our investigative team discovered dozens of incorrect signs all over the city.
That prompted Mayor Marty Walsh to pledge to have the city check the work of contractors, but despite that pledge, new problematic signs were recently installed.
“I honestly can't believe we're having this conversation again,” said FOX Undercover's Mike Beaudet to Mayor Walsh.
“We shouldn't be having this conversation again,” replied Walsh. “I'm certainly not happy about it.
The new issues are near Symphony Hall and involve five different signs.
They include a new problem that wasn't seen before: some of the signs are pointing drivers in two different directions with an arrow pointing two different ways.
A Route 9 West sign on Massachusetts Ave. sends people straight ahead and to the right, instead of only right.
It's the same problem with two Route 2A signs on Westland Ave.
The signs also direct drivers north and south, but Route 2A travels east and west.
However, the biggest blunder is that the 2A signs shouldn't even be there at all because this section of Mass Ave. isn't Route 2A.
In March Mayor Walsh blamed previous sign problems on a contractor who drew up the plans and promised the city would check the completed work of outside contractors, but the new signs went up anyway.
“You said your administration would be checking to make sure signs are installed properly. Clearly that didn't happen,” said Beaudet to the mayor.
“Well in this one particular case it didn't happen,” replied Walsh.
“Was that lip service saying that signs would be checked to make us go away so that we wouldn't be talking about signs?” asked Beaudet.
“I don't think you've found any other signs in the city of Boston and I'm sure you're looking for signs that are not put up correctly,” said Walsh.
The mayor blames the contractor, VHB, which drew up the plans and he points out the city had raised concerns with VHB in March about the plans for the new signs.
“This is a second contractor, separate contractor,” said Walsh. “I don't understand why contractors can't get this right. We give them a job to do. We tell them how we want it done. Again it's inexcusable.”
The mayor now expects the contractor to pay for any costs associated with fixing the problems.
VHB is taking responsibility for the inaccurate signs.
VHB's Traffic Design Director, David Greenberg, admits the city raised concerns about the plans for the signs back in March.
Greenberg is now apologizing for the errors, telling FOX Undercover, “Nobody's perfect.”
