The Nebraska Medical Center said earlier Saturday that it expected the patient to arrive at around 2 p.m.
The hospital hasn't named Salia as the patient, citing patient confidentiality laws. But Sierra Leone's chief medical officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo, confirmed to The Associated Press that the patient is Salia.
The Omaha hospital says information from those treating Salia in Sierra Leone indicated he is critically ill and may be in worse condition than previous Ebola patients who returned to the U.S. for treatment.
Salia would be the third Ebola patient treated at the Nebraska hospital and the 10th treated in the U.S.
