BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A new law designed to allow workers in Massachusetts to earn sick time passed on Tuesday.
Voters passed Ballot Question 4, dubbed the “sick time law,” which will allow people who work for companies with 11 or more employees to earn up to 40 hours of paid sick time per calendar year. Employees of companies with fewer than 11 employees will earn up to 40 hours of unpaid sick time.
Spokeswoman Justine Griffin for Committee to Protect Mass Jobs released the following statement Tuesday: "We are pleased that Massachusetts residents showed their continued strong support of casino gaming today. Today's vote means that three of the world's leading and most respected gaming companies will invest billions in Massachusetts starting immediately. By preserving the casino law, voters ensured that we will generate 10,000 new jobs and 6,500 construction jobs for Massachusetts residents and will bring $400 million in new annual revenue for Massachusetts. That money can be invested in our priorities here – in education, infrastructure, and public safety."
The measure was trumpeted by gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley.
