Coakley to meet with New Bedford fishermen

Posted: Updated:
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Democratic candidate for governor Martha Coakley is headed to New Bedford to meet with fishermen and representatives of the Massachusetts fishing industry.

The visit on Friday comes several days after the final televised debate of the campaign during which Coakley's Republican rival, Charlie Baker, tearfully recalled a meeting with a New Bedford fishermen who regretted pressuring his sons to follow him into the job rather than go to college.

Baker later acknowledged that he could not remember details of precisely when or where the meeting occurred.

Coakley is returning to the campaign trail after canceling public events Thursday out of respect to former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who died at age 71.

Baker has no campaign events currently scheduled for Friday.
