ATLANTA, Georgia (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Amber Vinson, a Dallas nurse treated for Ebola, was cleared of the virus and released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
Vinson was being cared for in a specialized unit at Emory University Hospital near Atlanta after she became infected with Ebola while treating Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Another nurse, Nina Pham, also became infected. Duncan died on Oct. 8.
During a press conference before her release, Vinson thanked her family, friends, supporters, and God.
"While the skills and dedication of the doctors, nurses, and others have obviously led to my recovery, it has been God's love that has truly carried me through this difficult time and has given me the hope and strength to fight," Vinson said.
"While this is a day for celebration and gratitude, I ask that we not lose focus of the thousands of families and patients who continue to carry the burden of this virus," Vinson added.
A health official from Emory said that the hospital was able to learn more about successfully treating Ebola, such as fluid and electrolyte management, from treating Vinson.
When asked why Vinson was able to recover so quickly from the virus, the health official pointed to her young age as a possible contributing factor.
Vinson is heading back to Texas, and officials say that Vinson is no longer at risk of spreading Ebola to others.
