Council delays vote on Boston2024 subpoena

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Boston City Council is getting involved in the bid to bring the 2024 Olympic games to Beantown. On Wednesday, members discussed getting more information from Boston2024, and the Boston City Council president blocked a vote to subpoena Boston2024 for missing chapters from their bid.

Boston City Council President Bill Linnehan said, "I object and therefore there cannot be a vote on that particular matter today."

Linnehan enforced a new rule that requires the council to wait before immediately acting on any subpoena. Councilor Tito Jackson, who has lead the push for the documents release, motioned to suspend that rule and vote immediately with staunch support from several other colleagues.

Boston City Council member Aynanna Presley said, "This is the right action. This is the right time it's simply common sense. There are still holes that remain in bid 2.0 about the financing of the Olympics."

Jackson said, "The people of the City of Boston have waited long enough and actually far too long to find out whether or not they are on the hook or are they going to be caught holding the bag on potential overruns."

Jackson said he was just trying to get the information related to financial and political commitments that Linnehan requested from Boston2024 back in June.
