Boston 2024 Olympics Bid
FOX 25 News coverage of Boston's 2024 Olympic bid.
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Boston City Councillor Tito Jackson says he didn't receive the previously unreleased information he demanded from Boston 2024 and now is set to "explore all options."
Jackson set a deadline of 5 p.m. Friday for Boston 2024 to give him chapters five and six of the original Olympics bid.
He says he wants to know what kinds of promises were made on the city's behalf, telling FOX25 Political Reporter Sharman Sacchetti, "1.0 won the bid. 1.0 is the winning document that got Boston the designation as the host city in the United State of America. We need to see that information."
We obtained a copy of the letter Boston 2024 sent to Jackson explaining they're not releasing those two chapters to protect the confidentiality of information provided by the USOC, and also to protect the privacy of donors.
But Jackson calls it a question of transparency.
"What I want to see is the actual documents that were submitted to the United States Olympic Committee that show the promises that were made financially by the City of Boston," he said.
Jackson says as a member of the City Council, he should be able to see everything that was promised, including financials, made on the city's behalf.
In a statement sent to FOX25, Boston 2024 COO Erin Murphy said, "Boston 2024 has released its entire 2.0 plan to the public, which was created after months of public meetings and extensive input from community, business and elected leaders, as well as Olympic planning experts and athletes. Bid 2.0 is the plan we are moving forward with and we look forward to continued public dialogue as we build plans to bring the games back to the United States."
