BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) - U.S. Olympic Committee leaders say they had productive meetings in Boston with organizers of the city's bid for the 2024 Summer Games.
The USOC and Boston 2024 met privately Thursday and said they reviewed the progress made over the last two weeks since Boston 2024 unveiled a revised version of its $4.6 billion proposal, dubbed Bid 2.0.
USOC leaders also talked with Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker about the state's assessment of the financial viability of the new bid plan, and they met separately with Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.
Walsh said the meeting was successful and that they discussed "where we are in the bid and where we'd like to see the poll numbers and where we'd like to see improvement."
Earlier Thursday, a group of Massachusetts residents formally filed a petition seeking to place a referendum on the 2016 ballot banning taxpayer spending if Boston wins the 2024 Summer Olympics.
“We’re grateful for the USOC’s continued partnership, full support and active participation,” said Steve Pagliuca, chairman, Boston 2024 Partnership. “During today’s meetings, we shared details of our progress and our continued engagement with the community to ensure that Boston hosting the Games delivers legacy benefits that will enrich our region and the Olympic movement for years to come. Our collaboration with Mayor Walsh and with the USOC reflects the strengths of partnership across the board and the collaborative approach we’re taking to bring the Games back to the U.S., right here in Boston.”
